The average office worker uses 10,000 sheets of copy paper annually. To put it in perspective, the U.S. goes through around 4 million tons of copy paper every year. Despite business’ best efforts to “go green,” paper waste is still an issue. However, a new tech appliance entering the market in 2016, plans to revolutionize office recycling.

What is the Epson PaperLab?
If you haven’t already heard, Epson just announced development of the first compact office papermaking system that turns used paper into new paper. The PaperLab has the capability to turn shredded waste paper into clean, new paper, without the use of water. Not only does this promote water conservation, but it allows for easy office installation, without the need for plumbing facilities. The recycled paper can be created in various size, type, thickness, and color. Whether copy paper, business card paper, or paper that is colored and scented, your office could be printing it’s own recycled paper in the matter of minutes. Epson declares that their eco-friendly machine can produce about 6,720 sheets of paper in an eight-hour work day.
How does it work?
The Epson PaperLab uses a dry fiber technology that consists of three separate parts:
- Fiberizing-this process shreds the waste paper into thin, cottony fibers.
- Binding-a variety of binders can be added to increase the strength or whiteness of the paper, or to add color, scent, and other properties.
- Forming-this technology allows users to produce A4 or A3 office paper and business card paper. Users can also choose the paper density, thickness, and size.
